Glaze Reformulations

Over the years changes have occurred that have caused us to reformulate some of the glazes that are in the book. Some of these reformulations have made it into the ebook version; however not all have. The need to reformulate was caused by things such as materials changing composition or no longer being available, specific problems in certain localities that gave different results than were expected (e.g. crawling or crazing), and interactions with some clay bodies that were outside the range we anticipated.

We have divided this section into two parts. First is reformulation of the glazes that are in Chapter 6 of Mastering Cone 6 Glazes. These are the glazes that are most likely to be used on pots.

Second is reformulation of the glazes that are in Chapter 5. These are the glazes we recommend for using to see where your clay body is with respect to thermal expansion/contraction characteristics.

In time we plan to add a set of analogous glazes for use with cone 10 bodies.
